About the Author
Andrew Craig graduated in Economics and International Politics in 1997. His first job took him to Washington DC where he worked for a US Congressman on Capitol Hill. Since then Andrew has spent well over a decade working in financial markets in London and latterly New York. Importantly, Andrew originally worked in an area called “pan european small and mid caps”. This simply meant that he dealt with companies from all over Europe that were less than about £2-3 billion in size. He was able to meet and travel with the top management teams of several hundred companies and was involved with the stock market flotation (IPO) of the likes of Burberry, Campari, easyJet, HMV, lastminute.com, Carluccio’s and the Carbon Trust. Working in the more volatile area of “smaller” companies meant that Andrew saw first hand just how much money the very best investors were able to make. His reaction was to read extremely widely about investment and to start investing his own money. Thanks in great part to the returns afforded by those investments he has been able to spend around five of the last fifteen years outside of conventional employment (not having to earn any money). This has given him the time to read very widely on finance, trading, economics, history and economic history. good but moreso aimed at U.K.

I learned much from this book as far as investing terms and info, but was disappointed the book is primarily for U.K. readers. When he gets to the nuts and bolts of how to invest, his recommendation is an ISA. Apparently, the closest equivalent we have here in the states is a Roth IRA, but that is for retirement and he mentions the reason he recommends the ISA is because you get your earnings and contributions without waiting for retirement. He does mention several companies for U.S. investors and I am going to research this further. I hope he will write a book geared for U.S. investors.

This is a great resource for anyone who is trying to understand finance and take control of their own financial affairs. As someone who knows very little about this world and is looking to be a little less intimidated by it all, Own The World is a great, non-threatening place to start you well on your way.

Terrifically presented information and advice, in the form of Tell 'em what you're going to tell 'em. Tell 'em. Tell 'em what you told 'em.
Although this book is designed primarily for people starting from the beginning, I found the book exactly what I needed to consolidate and allocate my existing legacy personal pensions. The book also gave me the knowledge and confidence to allocate future contributions.
The book clearly explains the current structural changes occurring in the global economy.
How one can begin putting aside small contributions. The simple tools one needs to be aware of. How the current inflation can be owned etc. Once all this has been digested and in order to keep his advice fresh and up-to-date, Andrew refers the reader to his free blog plainenglishfinance.com. Here he makes specific recommendations for allocating your money, as-of-today.
After using Andrew's recommended fund-choice for my own pension, I subsequently wished to consolidate my elderly parents savings using the same fund. As part of that I needed to clarify certain details with the fund. I've since found them extremely responsive to all of my queries, down to same-day Emails replies. Congratulations on the personal touch.
